Abstract:

The topic of the chapter is translation and its relation with communica- tion. It is possible to summarize the main characteristics of translation in some points. Translation concerns texts not phrases or words. Translation is a kind re- writing because it has the goal of building an image of a text, of an author or of an entire literary culture and to project them in a different reception environment. Translation changes cultures and has a central role in a communication system. Translation develops a central role in the building of identities and cultures be- cause it brings into play the relation between language and ideology. It also brings into play as a consequence the idea of language as a constant movement, heteroge- neous and polymorphic. Finally in translation, meaning does not remain unaltered when “traveling” from one culture to another.
