Influences of cognitive dimensions on the collaborative entry mode choice of small-and medium-sized enterprises

Manlio Del Giudice, Ahmad Arslan, Veronica Scuotto, Francesco Caputo - The purpose of this paper is to address internationalisation of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by specifically focussing on collaborative entry modes. Despite significant research done on market entry and internationalisation strategies of firms, the use of collaborative entry modes by SMEs during internationalisation has not received a lot of attention. The authors contribute to foreign market entry studies by analysing the influences of cognitive dimensions on collaborative entry mode choice (equity vs non-equity modes) of SMEs in their international markets.

Ambidextrous organizations in the banking sector: an empirical verification of banks’ performance and conceptual development

Manlio Del Giudice, Francesco Campanella, Alkis Thrassou & Demetris Vrontis - The aim of the research is to identify the relationship between organizational ambidexterity (OA) and firm performance, based on a large-scale empirical study incorporating 3883 commercial and investment banks across 28 European countries. In parallel, it seeks to investigate and comprehend the potential effects of exploration and exploitation on performance

The impact of IT-based Knowledge Management Systems on internal venturing and innovation: a Structural Equation Modeling approach to corporate performance

Manlio Del Giudice, Maria Rosaria Della Peruta - The purpose of this paper is to assess the perceived importance of information technology (IT) as a core factor enabling innovation in knowledge management (KM). The aim is to propose an approach for using the IT tools for KM involved in the design of effective learning applications to help the firms to guide internal venturing development.

Discovering the Internet of Things (IoT): technology and business process management, inside and outside the innovative firms

Manlio Del Giudice - The growing relevance of the “Internet of Things” (IoT) arises from the possibility to connect people, goods and operations through a global network. The company performance management and the customer relationship management are influenced by the IoT that allows for an increasing competitiveness of the global corporations by sharing specific knowledge and social value in the long term. On one side, in many sectors such as agrifood, natural environment, smart cities, insurances, safety security, the IoT utility is changing the way of interpreting the business process management inside and outside the firms as well as innovation processes connected to products and services.

Instigators and Victims of Racism Abuse in Football: Are the Same, Different, or What?

Tarnanidis T., Tsaples G., Papathanasiou J. & Armenia S. - The current research provides a mapping of the most important instigators and victims of racism abuse in football. Based on the literature review findings, it is observed that in sports, there exists an upward trend of racism incidents among different stakeholders on a daily basis, from the administrative workforce and distinct policy makers to athletes and fans. In order to investigate this trend, data was collected through the implementation of a specific project, called “BRISWA,” which is an EU-funded project that deals with the problem of racism in football and in sports in general (funded by the Erasmus + Programme - Sport Collaborative Partnership). The survey was conducted in the field of football in six countries, Italy, Greece, Romania, Serbia, Hungary, and Bulgaria.

A Systemic Perspective on Racism in Football: The Experience of the BRISWA Project

Stefano Armenia, Camillo Carlini, Jason Papathanasiou, Alessandro Pompei, Georgios Tsaples - The objective of this paper is to present the process for the development of a causal loop diagram that captures the relevant aspects of racism in football, through a holistic, top-down approach. To do so, a series of workshops/sessions has been organised with experts in the field and with the purpose of designing a tool that could be used to get better insights into how racism in football emerges and where are the potential areas where policy makers could use as leverage for effective counter-measures.

Training in Systems Thinking and System Dynamics as an Effective Way to Tackle Complexity in the Management of Organisations

Stefano Armenia, Alessandro Pompei, Annamaria Vecchio - The biggest challenge for today’s organisations is to address the growing complexity of their internal and external environment while gaining a competitive advantage. To do this, the leaders of the organisations must be able to understand this complexity through the knowledge of the environment and the implementation of a governance system based on a decision-making process that considers the enormous amount of data available.

Smart model-based governance: Taking decision making to the next level by integrating data analytics with systems thinking and system dynamics

Stefano Armenia - Although Big Data initiatives are currently presenting promising results, there is still some skepticism about their real capabilities as they are contextual dependent, and their objective and accuracy are some how misleading (Armenia et al., 2018). Approaches underlying the extraction of knowledge from a large amount of data are surely important tounder stand how a system has behave duntil a certain point in time. However, they, unfortunately, lack a real and effective capability to inferfuture system's behaviour and its relationship with other systems (some of which might even have counter-intuitive behaviours).
