Abstract:
The paper gives an overview of the main contributions to Cognitive Linguistics in Italy. The first part focuses on three handbooks on cognitive linguistics published in Italy in the last years. The second part aims at illustrating the main individual and original contributions of Italian linguists who, applying different tools to different research areas, share a deep interest in the central role played by conceptual and cognitive structures both in the structures and meanings of complex linguistic expressions and in the diachronic change of the coding means. The final section deals with an independent tradition which shares some topics of interest with cognitive linguistics – namely, Umberto Eco’s school of semiotics.
