Sustainable Project Management: A Conceptualization-Oriented Review and a Framework Proposal for Future Studies

Armenia Stefano, Dangelico Rosa Maria, Nonino Fabio, Pompei Alessandro - Today, more than ever, achieving sustainability of business activities, intertwining social, economic, and environmental perspectives, is one of the most challenging objectives for companies. Project management processes are no exception. This paper aims to contribute to the current research knowledge through a systematic review of the literature on the integration of project management and sustainability. Specifically, the aim was to clarify the research domains of sustainable project management, and to understand the current state of development and the future research directions. Results indicate that academic literature about this topic is still in its infancy, but that scholars’ attention is growing, opening new research directions. Based on the literature review results, we propose a new conceptual framework linking five key dimensions of sustainable project management: corporate policies and practices, resource management, life cycle orientation, stakeholders’ engagement, and organizational learning.

A Systems Approach to Urban Food Supply and Distribution Systems

Armendariz V, Armenia S, Atzori A S - This Open Access book is for scientists and experts who work on urban food policies. It provides a conceptual framework for understanding the urban food system sustainability and how it can be tackled by local governments. Written by a collective of researchers, this book describes the existing conceptual frameworks for an analysis of urban food policies, at the crossroads of the concepts of food system and sustainable city.

Pompei, R. Scolozzi, G. Tsaples, L. Tsironis - SUSTAIN is an ERASMUS+ project with an innovative perspective on urban transportation. Its target is to promote the importance of sustainability on the everyday problem of urban transportation among the students of higher education, which are the policy makers of tomorrow.

Game Based Learning on Urban Sustainability: The “Sustain” Project

Papathanasiou J., S. Armenia, F. Barnabè, C. Carlini, N. Ciobanu, P. Digkoglou, L. Jarzabek, M. Kulakowska, A. Lanzuisi, M. Morfoulaki, G. Myrovali, C. Onofrei, A. Pompei, R. Scolozzi, G. Tsaples - SUSTAIN is an ERASMUS+ project with an innovative perspective on urban sustainability. Its target is to promote the importance of sustainability on the everyday problems of the cities among the students of higher education, which are the policy makers of tomorrow and the ones that will shape the future.

A System Dynamics perspective on a Viable Systems approach definition for sustainable value

Iandolo Francesca, Barile Sergio, Armenia Stefano, Carrubbo Luca - Aim of this work is to shed light on sustainable value and develop a model, based on vSa and translated at applicative level through the system dynamics methodology for measuring sustainable value. By adopting vSa perspective, value, characterized by strongly subjective contents, will be considered as a vector quantity, as the result of the subjective weighting of the different dimensions that may change according to the considered organization.

Analysing management effectiveness and project performance through a system dynamics approach: the case of software development projects

Armenia S - While existing research has mainly focused on project management’s static view, our work investigates the impacts of projects’ structure and behavioural dynamics on their performance, with a specific focus on the influence of some peculiar development processes. A dynamic simulation model of a single-phase project was built using the system dynamics methodology. The model integrates several previously developed and tested project structures and adds a separate structure for the negotiation process. Simulations describe the behaviours generated by the interaction of customized development processes in single-phase projects.

Critical Events and Critical Infrastructures: A System Dynamics Approach

Armenia S, Tsaples G, Carlini C - Critical events like natural disasters or terrorist attacks have evolved to a realistic concern over the last decade. Anticipation and timely decision-making are fundamental to ensure positive outcomes, stability and safety especially with concern to Critical Infrastructure. The purpose of this paper is to promote a new framework for efficient and effective crisis management in the area of Critical Infrastructures.
